What can I use Typographer for?
Typographer is built to make exploring and testing fonts easy and safe within your design process. Here’s what your subscription covers:
- Prototyping and creative work. You can use fonts freely in mock-ups, comps, tests, and private pitch materials for yourself or for a client. Fonts can be shared as part of non-extractable previews with clients, so they can see your ideas before you commit.
- Personal or small business websites. Your subscription includes up to 15,000 pageviews per month for non-commercial or small-scale sites (e.g., portfolios, blogs, landing pages). This makes it easy to test and evaluate fonts in a live environment without needing a larger license.
For any public release, commercial project, or larger-scale usage, you’ll simply purchase the right license directly from the foundry when you’re ready to launch.
Do I need an account to browse fonts?
No. Anyone can browse and preview fonts on Typographer without creating an account. An account is only required if you want to start a free trial, sync, or add fonts to your library.
What does "sync" mean?
Syncing installs fonts from Typographer directly into your operating system, so any app that relies on system fonts can access them without manual downloads or installs.
Can I use Typographer fonts in my design apps?
Yes. Fonts can be synced directly and will work in apps like Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, and other supported platforms for easy trial and prototyping. Just click Sync in Typographer, and the fonts will appear in your design tools automatically.
Which tools work with Typographer?
Typographer syncs fonts to your operating system. Most apps that read system fonts will pick them up automatically—like Figma (desktop), Adobe Creative Cloud apps, Sketch, Affinity, and Microsoft Office.
Which tools don’t work with Typographer?
Typographer-synced fonts won’t appear in Font Book or other system font managers. They also can’t be used in apps like Canva that require you to upload font files directly.
Most other design and productivity apps that read system fonts will work as expected.
Does Typographer support Windows or iOS?
Typographer is currently available only on macOS. Windows and mobile platforms (iOS/Android) aren’t supported yet.
How do I know if a font is synced?
Just open the design tool you’re using — the font should appear in your menus. In some cases you may need to restart the design app (not Typographer).
I’m not seeing a font in my design tool — why not?
- Make sure the Typographer desktop app is open and the font shows as added in your library.
- Restart your design app to refresh the font menu.
- Some tools don’t support Typographer-synced fonts (e.g. Font Book, Canva).
If you’ve tried these steps and the font still isn’t appearing, contact us.
How do I use webfonts on my site?
When you add a webfont, Typographer provides a code snippet you can
insert into your site’s code. For example, in HTML/CSS you’ll paste
the code inside your <head>
tag. Many platforms like WordPress or Squarespace also have settings
or plugins where you can insert custom font code.
How do I license fonts for commercial use?
Typographer is just for testing and exploration. If you’d like to use a font in a commercial project (web, app, broadcast, packaging, etc.), you’ll need a proper license from the foundry. Just head to the font’s page and follow the link to the foundry’s site to license it.
How does the student plan work?
Students can access Typographer for free. Proof of current enrollment is required and must be renewed each year. Academic use only, non-transferable.
To activate, simply email us from your university or school email address.
What is the refund policy?
Refunds are available only for annual subscriptions, prorated through the end of the current month. If any promotional credits have been redeemed, the refund will be reduced accordingly.
How do I upgrade, change, or cancel my plan?
You can manage your subscription anytime through your account settings. Click “Manage subscription” to open the Stripe portal, where you can upgrade, change, or cancel your plan.
What happens if I cancel my subscription?
When you cancel, the fonts you’ve synced will be uninstalled from your system and will no longer appear in your design tools. Any web fonts will also be disabled once the subscription ends. You can always reactivate your subscription to restore access.
