Egyptian is a typographic misnomer with a good story behind it. Nineteenth-century foundries cut heavy slab serifs during a wave of Egyptomania and named them accordingly, though the letters owe nothing to hieroglyphs. Thick rectangular serifs and near-uniform strokes give them an advertising presence that has never really gone away.
